Can dogs eat Toasted nori?

Toasted nori(焼きのり)

With care

High in iodine, so watch the amount.

297 kcal per 100 g

What kind of food is this?

Laver seaweed, toasted and dried. With the water removed, the nutrients are concentrated: dietary fiber is 36g per 100g and vitamin A 2300µg—both especially high even among seafood.

Iodine is 2100µg per 100g. It offers fiber and minerals you won't get from meat or fish.

How to serve

Seasoned nori contains salt and flavorings, so use plain toasted nori, torn into small pieces, just for a touch of flavor. Because it is high in iodine, for dogs under thyroid treatment or care it is something to discuss with your vet. Iodine content varies greatly by type of seaweed, so when using several kinds on the same day, look at how much seaweed you are using overall.

In food-energetics terms

In food-energetics terms it is classified as "cold"—considered strongly cooling and often chosen when the body is holding excess heat. For dogs prone to feeling cold, keeping amounts small is safer.

(Food energetics is a long-standing idea of supporting the body through everyday meals. Treat it as one extra hint alongside the nutrition numbers.)
