What kind of food is this?
Onion belongs to the same allium family as green onion, garlic, and garlic chives. The organosulfur compounds in alliums can oxidatively damage a dog's red blood cells, which can lead to hemolytic anemia.
Symptoms may appear not right after eating but some time later.
Cooked, in broth, or powdered — all the same
Allium compounds remain even after cooking. Boiled, grilled, or stir-fried onion is treated the same as raw.
The compounds also pass into cooking liquid. Even with the onion itself removed, the soup — or any food with that broth on it — is not for dogs.
Powdered forms such as onion powder are treated the same way.
