What kind of food is this?
A leaf with a cool, refreshing scent. The main essential-oil component differs by variety—menthol in peppermint, carvone in spearmint.
In dog meals it is less a nutrition booster than a leaf for varying the aroma.
How to serve
Use only clearly identified peppermint or spearmint, and only as a light flavoring. The essential oils in mint can cause vomiting or an upset stomach when eaten in large amounts. Plants called 'mint' also include pennyroyal mint, a variety considered harmful to dogs, so do not use mint whose variety you don't know, including garden or wild-growing mint.
